Once upon a time on a farm not to far from New Kent lived a very sad turkey. He was sad because all of the other turkeys made fun of him. They would say " Scrawny Turkey, you're so scrawny that if the farmer came to get you he probably wouldn't even be able to see you." Then they would all laugh. This made Scrawny Turkey very sad.
It was true. Scrawny Turkey had been on the farm for two years now, and every year the farmer passed him right by. That made Scrawny Turkey very sad.
One day Scrawny Turkey was pecking around the barnyard when he heard a very discouraging conversation. What's that you are going to pick the fattest turkey in the yard to have over for Thanksgiving dinner? Scrawny Turkey just knew it wouldn't be him again this year. He would never be fat enough to be invited over to Thanksgiving dinner. I'll bet he is going to pick that Chubby Turkey instead of me. I know what I can do. The day before Thanksgiving I will eat as much corn as I can and then surely I will be fat enough to be invited over to Thanksgiving dinner. This made Scrawny Turkey very happy.
Well... the day came. The farmer's daughter came around with the corn for the turkeys and that Scrawny Turkey was off. He ate that corn, and he ate that corn, and he ate that corn, ... No one could figure out what had gotten in to Scrawny Turkey, but he was determined. He was going to be invited over to Thanksgiving Dinner if it was the last thing he did. Scrawny Turkey had finally eaten all of the corn that the farmer's daughter had put out for them to eat, but all of a sudden he wasn't feeling very well. His stomach was flipping and flopping and doing all kinds of weird things. And you know what happened next? He threw up all of that corn that he had eaten all over the ground! Oh! What was poor Scrawny Turkey to do? He would never be fat enough to be asked to dinner now. This made Scrawny Turkey very sad.
Oh no! Scrawny Turkey had eaten all of the food. All of the turkeys started to yell Scrawny Turkey. They called him names and they were very mean. This made Scrawny Turkey very sad.
Now what were the turkeys going to do! It didn't look like any of the turkeys were going to get invited over to Thanksgiving Dinner. They were all too skinny. This made Scrawny Turkey very sad.
(Chant "I'm going to catch me a turkey. Kill me a turkey. Eat me a turkey on Thanksgiving Day)
Oh No! Cried the turkeys what will we do? We always thought that the farmer was nice to feed us every day and to invite us over for Thanksgiving Dinner. It looks like we ARE Thanksgiving Dinner. Scrawny Turkey thought fast. What was the one thing that kept Scrawny from being picked year after year? That's right! He was too scrawny. So.. he told all of the turkeys to suck in their bellies and to try to look as thin as they could. Maybe just maybe he would walk on by.
""What is this?," said the farmer looks like I've got a bunch of scrawny turkeys. None of these turkeys look like they're ready to be my Thanksgiving dinner!" I guess we will have to eat vegetables.
From that day on no one made fun of Scrawny Turkey. They would sing "He's a Jolly Old Turkey" whenever he came walking by. This made Scrawny Turkey very happy.
