- Make index cards with various mixtures of whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, etc., presented as addition problems.
- Make a note of how much each card adds up to on another sheet of paper.
- Have the children sit in two equal rows on the floor, facing each other.
- Place the cards in the middle of the two rows (face up), so that the children can all view all of the cards.
- Each row makes up a team (a red team and a blue team).
- Allow one child from each team to go at the same time.
- Call out one of the numbers on your card (put a line through it with your Vis a vis marker so you know you already did it).
- The child that finds the card that adds up to the number you have called out wins a point for their team (keep track on the dry erase board).
- When each child has a had a turn to compete - that round is over.
- Announce the winner for that round, spread the cards back out, and play again.
- If you have an uneven amount of children on each team, allow a child on the other team to go twice.
